Pro snowboarder and former Dancing With the Stars contestant Amy Purdy remains hospitalized with a serious condition called Rhabdomyolysis. The Paralympian spoke to fans on social media to describe the condition, in which muscle tissue breaks down and releases a dangerous toxin into the bloodstream.
“I believe social media should give insight into our lives, and life doesn’t always have a pretty filter,” Purdy wrote on Instagram. “Also, I want to inform you about this disorder that can happen to anyone. You have to listen to your body… when it is telling you to stop… Stop!”
Purdy was training for the snowboarding season when she noticed irregular swelling in her arm and went to the ER.
