Kareem Abdul-Jabbar has written a scathing essay about the negative effects of ABC’s popular Bachelor franchise, especially pertaining to female body image. The former NBA star and social activist pulled no punches in the piece, which was published in The Hollywood Reporter.
“Those outside the ideal body fat percentage index need not apply,” Abdul-Jabbar wrote. “With all eyes firmly fixed on firm buttocks, the criteria for finding love becomes how high a quarter will bounce off rock-hard abs.”
Abdul-Jabbar also criticized the reality romance franchise for lacking “intellectual and appearance diversity” and promoting a false idea of romance to young people.
