Selena Gomez shot to teen stardom on Disney hit Wizards of Waverly Place, but now the actress and singer has revealed those years were sometimes filled with torment. Gomez, 24, recently opened up in a new interview about the bullying she faced during that time.
“I went to the biggest high school in the world, which is the Disney Channel,” Gomez told The New York Times. “And my mom had a lot of history dealing with [bullying]. I heard her stories growing up. She’s very open about it.”
Gomez says her experiences lead her to option the rights to bestseller Thirteen Reasons Why, a story about a girl who takes her own life due to bullying. Gomez and her mother are producing the show on Netflix. It premieres on March 31.
