Kevin Spacey is facing mounting criticism for his choice to come out as a gay in the same statement in which he apologized to actor Anthony Rapp for an alleged sexual assault that took place in 1986 when Rapp was just 14 years old.
Spacey took to Twitter to apologize, though he says he does not remember the incident. He attributed his actions to “deeply inappropriate drunken behavior” before making a public declaration about his sexuality.
“I have loved and had romantic encounters with men throughout my life, and I choose now to live as a gay man,” Spacey tweeted.
Celebrities including Rose McGowen and Wanda Sykes have publicly slammed the House of Cards actor for linking his coming out statement to an apology for unwanted sexual advances.
