After CBS aired the most shocking Survivor episode in franchise history, in which contestant Jeff Varner outed fellow player Zeke Smith as transgender, Varner’s employer took action. Allen Tate Real Estate company, which had hired Varner just 17 days before the episode aired, terminated his employment and released the following statement:
“The Allen Tate Companies were built on core values of honesty, integrity and respect. Those fundamental beliefs led us to end our relationship with Mr. Varner, a real estate agent who had become affiliated with our firm just 17 days earlier.
Varner called his termination “an ugly, knee jerk reaction” and says several clients will follow him to his next real estate firm.
