In a segment taped for the October 30 episode of Today, Selena Gomez and best friend Francia Raisa will speak publicly for the first time about the kidney transplant that saved the singer’s life. Raisa donated a kidney to Gomez this past summer.
“I didn’t want to ask a single person in my life. And she volunteered and did it,” Gomez says in a preview of the interview with Today host Savannah Guthrie.
The “Wolves” singer, 25, previously announced her secret surgery on social media, indicating that her kidneys had failed due to complications from Lupus. Raisa, 29, best known for her role on Secret Life of the American Teenager, is credited with saving Gomez’s life.
