Legendary comedienne and fashion maven Joan Rivers has died at the age of 81, her daughter Melissa confirmed on Thursday.
“My mother’s greatest joy in life was to make people laugh,” Melissa said. “Although that is difficult to do right now, I know her final wish would be that we return to laughing soon.”
Rivers succumbed to complications sustained from a throat surgery procedure she underwent a week ago. She went into cardiac and respiratory arrest during the surgery and was rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital, where she was placed in a medically-induced coma and was on life support until her passing.
