In a new interview with Newsweek, Prince Harry bemoaned the fact that he was made to walk the streets of London at age 12 as part Princess Diana’s funeral procession. It marks the first time the Prince has publicly discussed the experience.
“My mother had just died, and I had to walk a long way behind her coffin, surrounded by thousands of people watching me while millions more did on television,” Harry, 32, said. “I don’t think any child should be asked to do that, under any circumstances. I don’t think it would happen today.”
Harry has recently been more open about the toll his mother’s death took on him, and how he avoided dealing with the loss for nearly two decades.
