In an unprecedented move for the British royal family, Prince Harry has released a statement condemning the racist and sexist comments about his new girlfriend, American actress Meghan Markle.
“The past week has seen a line crossed,” reads the letter. “Meghan Markle has been subject to a wave of abuse and harassment. Some of this has been very public — the smear on the front page of a national newspaper; the racial undertones of comment pieces; and the outright sexism and racism of social media trolls and web article comments.”
Markle, who stars in USA’s Suits, has an African American mother. She and Prince Harry met in June and their romantic relationship was confirmed in October.
