Teenyboppers everywhere shed more than a few tears on Wednesday when Zayn Malik confirmed that he would be leaving his band One Direction for good.
A source close the pop star has come forward in support of his decision, however, revealing that it was the right move for Malik at this point in his life.
“He just wasn’t happy,” the insider told Us Weekly. “He felt he had gotten everything he can out of being in the band and that it was now time to change his life and be away from all the craziness.”
