Simon Cowell chose the wrong topic to joke about when he referenced Mel B’s wedding night in an insensitive comment that sent the former Spice Girl storming off the live America’s Got Talent set after dousing Cowell with a cup of water. The ill-advised joke came after a magician’s stunt malfunctioned.
“I kind of imagine this would be like Mel B’s wedding night,” Cowell said of the act. “A lot of anticipation, not much promise or delivery.”
Mel B is in the midst of a messy divorce from Stephen Belafonte, whom she claims was abusive during their decade-long marriage. The sassy AGT judge soon returned to the set and did not miss any performances.
