Kanye West used his time on stage in Brisbane, Australia, on Monday to respond to the seemingly overblown criticism he received for asking his Sydney audience – which happened to include a wheelchair-ridden patron, as well as an individual with a prosthetic leg – to stand up for one of his songs.
“I’m a married, Christian man with a family, pick another target,” he said.
He did go on to ask his Brisbane audience to stand up, but this time he altered his request a bit.
“Everybody who is not in a wheelchair or handicapped will stand up,” he said. “If you can not prove to me that you are in a wheelchair, you need to be standing. If you can, it is okay to sit down.”
