Zoe Saldana is standing up and applauding fellow actor Michael B. Jordan for his recent essay about racism and casting in Hollywood.
Jordan was inspired to write the piece after comic book fans questioned his casting in the role of the Human Torch, who has historically been a light-skinned character with blonde hair and blue eyes.
“Bravo!!! Inspired by Michael’s essay,” Saldana wrote on Facebook. “Thank you for speaking up. If we question why Michael has been cast to play the Human Torch in Fantastic Four then we must also question why Elizabeth Taylor played Cleopatra, why Angelina Jolie played Mariane Pearl in A Mighty Heart, why Laurence Olivier played Othello, Burt Lancaster in Apache, and the list goes on….and on…. And on…”
