After the death of his mother Donda in 2007, Kanye West created the Donda House in her honor.

Now, a year after it officially opened its doors in August of 2013, co-founder and executive director Donnie Smith says the non-profit is doing amazing things for young people between the ages of 14 and 24 in Chicago, providing them with a “holistic approach” to a premium arts education.

“There’s this great diversity of applicants and students. Some are mothers, some are in college, some are high school dropouts,” Smith told People magazine. “”We tell our artists that being an artist is a full-body experience. So we have a health and wellness class, we have a yoga instructor, we have a nutritionist. … It’s very well-rounded.”
