Lena Dunham gave readers a sneak peek into her new memoir, Not that Kind of Girl: A Young Woman Tells You What She’s Learned, in the Sept. 1 issue of The New Yorker and reveals her struggles with anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder as a young girl.
The excerpt Dunham shared is titled “Difficult Girl” and reads in part, “The germophobia morphs into hypochondria morphs into sexual anxiety morphs into the pain and angst that accompany entry into middle school.”
The book will be available in full on Sept. 30. Dunham is the creator of the hit HBO series “Girls.”
